A very rich cultural and natural town

The city of painters

This charming little town was named "The city of painters" because it was in 1885 that a small group of painters settled in Pont-Aven. Then in 1886 some famous painters like Paul Gauguin arrived.

You can visit important galleries such as the Museum of Pont Aven for example. This one has been open since 1985 and gathers more than 4500 works.

Pont-Aven also has its own art school with the Pont-Aven School of Contemporary Art (PASCA)

Le bois d'amour

The Bois d'Amour is the place that has been most inspiring for artists who have come to Pont-Aven. Famous for its beauty, it is appreciated for its trees and the play of light that operates through them. It is now a very popular walk for tourists.

Breathtaking landscapes

This city is full of magnificent landscapes. Indeed, hiking enthusiasts will be served, they will be able to admire old wash houses, 15 mills and stone mounds. The most impressive rock has been called "Gargantua's hoof" in reference to mythology.

You can also walk around and discover impressive megaliths with two large menhirs in the commune and dolmens with up to four pillars. This historical wealth makes Brittany a privileged area in their abundance.

Strolling through the streets of Pont-Aven town centre you will find a multitude of designer shops of all kinds: ready-to-wear, tableware, decorative objects, jewellery and watches; ladies, treat yourself.

Gourmet delights

Pont-Aven has its own Breton buckwheat cakes known as "Traou-Mad" from the Breton word for "good things", these are a must for lovers of these sweet treats.

For those with a sweet tooth, the Breton palets of Pont-Aven are also worth trying, as are the madeleines, financiers or crakous (crunchy biscuits) which will delight your taste buds.
