The most beautiful places in South Finistère in Brittany

Between Concarneau and Pont-Aven, Camping Le Vieux Verger in Névez is the ideal destination for exploring the most beautiful places in Brittany and South Finistère! We'll show you some of the highlights of our regional heritage! Follow the guide!

It all starts in Finistère...

The Concarneau region

The third-largest town in Finistère, Concarneau is renowned for its walled city, built in the 16th century and one of Brittany's most visited heritage sites. Its drawbridge, clock tower, three-metre-thick granite ramparts and nine towers encircling the medieval town are one of the most popular images of Cornouaille. Guided tours are organised all year round to discover the history of the walled town, the fortifications, the fishing port...

Pont-Aven, the "city of painters

Make the most of your camping holiday near Pont-Aven to visit the "city of painters" and take in the sights. Many painters, including Gauguin, Émile Bernard and Paul Sérusier, stayed here at the end of the 19th century. Things to see and do: the Musée de Pont-Aven (over 200 paintings and works), the biscuit factories (the famous Galettes de Pont-Aven!), the many art galleries of local and foreign painters, the Bois d'Amour where Paul Gauguin gave Paul Sérusier a "painting lesson" in 1888.

Quimper, capital of Brittany's Cornouaille region

Set course for the capital of Cornouaille and Finistère! Discover Old Quimper, the cobbled streets of the town centre, Saint-Corentin Cathedral, 14th-century half-timbered and corbelled houses, the quays of the Odet, the Palais des Évêques and the Musée des Beaux-Arts... The Locmaria district is the birthplace of the HB-Henriot earthenware factory, world-renowned for the quality of its creations since 1690, particularly its Breton bowls with first names.

Locronan, one of Brittany's most beautiful villages

Just 20 minutes from Quimper, Locronan is famous for its magnificent granite houses dating from the Renaissance. Awarded the "Petite Cité de Caractère" and "Plus beau village de France" labels, the village stands on a small mountain in the heart of a sacred forest. Don't miss the Troménie pardon, held every year on the second Sunday in July. It's a chance to admire the diversity and beauty of traditional Breton costumes.

Pointe du Raz, the end of the world... in Brittany

Less than 100 km from Le Vieux Verger campsite, where the land ends, lies the Pointe du Raz. This breathtaking natural site is emblematic of South Finistère. Classified as a "Grand site de France", this setting of high cliffs covered with moorland covers more than 2,000 hectares. The Pointe du Raz is criss-crossed by the famous GR34 hiking trail, also known as the "customs officers' trail". Opposite the pointe is the Raz de Sein, an 8km strait renowned for its violent sea currents and waves over seven metres high.

Set course for the islands of Southern Brittany...
...To discover by zodiac or speedboat

Take advantage of a boat trip to discover the islands of Brittany. During your stopovers, you'll discover one little corner of paradise after another, but they're all different: the Glénan archipelago, the island of Groix, Belle-Île-en-Mer, Houat and Hoëdic.

The campsite's favourite: in South Finistère, the Caribbean is just around the corner. Some fifteen kilometres off Concarneau and Fouesnant, the Glénan islands offer an exotic stopover with their turquoise blue lagoon and white sandy beaches. Discover them with Les Vedettes de l'Odet.

Morbihan, holidays to die for... or by the sea

Make the most of your camping holiday in Southern Brittany to visit Morbihan, a department bordering Finistère to the west. The "Little Sea" (Mor Bihan in Breton) has a thousand and one treasures to tempt you.

Quiberon Bay: the Côte Sauvage stretches for around ten kilometres, in the heart of France's Grand Site of wild dunes from Gâvres to Quiberon. The island of Saint-Cado on the Ria d'Étel, the megaliths at Erdeven and Locmariaquer, the port of Saint-Goustan in Auray, the port of La Trinité-sur-Mer and the forest of Camors are just some of the places to discover.

Carnac : world-famous for its alignments of 3,000 menhirs dating back thousands of years, the Carnac megalithic site is a major centre of European prehistory. The Ménec site, opposite the Maison des Mégalithes, is the starting point for guided tours organised from April to September.

Vannes : capital of Morbihan and a Town of Art and History, Vannes is an inviting place to stroll through its medieval streets lined with timber-framed houses, its medieval ramparts and formal gardens, its Saint-Pierre cathedral (the longest in Brittany) and its marina.

Lorient : immerse yourself in the world of ocean racing at the Cité de la Voile Éric Tabarly, discover Brittany's first fishing port and then travel through Lorient's fascinating history with a visit to the Keroman submarine base. And don't forget the Lorient Interceltic Festival, where the heart of Celtic Brittany beats.
